Bottle Drive
Here is all you have to do -
- Bag up your empties and label the bags with the number 36. (36 is our account number at Lou's)
- Drop off the bags at Lou's and your done.
You can also go in have them add your receipt to the account.
Remember - If you don't remember the account number just let the friendly folks at Lou's know that you would like the your recycle money go to the Augusta Skatepark Fund, and they will add it to our total. Once a month they will call me to come collect and I will update the blog on where we stand with donations from this drive.
You can go out and do bottle drives in your neighborhoods and towns and bring them to Lou's any time
Spread the word and lets get this park built.
Fall Skate Comp at "The Link"
The contest went off at "The Link" skatepark. A good time was had by all that showed up. We had skaters from Portland to Waterville and locations in between show up. Everyone that skated walked away with something. We even had 3 broken boards from the event. It may look tame, but "The Link" will eat up boards and skaters like nobody's business. I would like to thank our sponsors - Softrucks, Vox Footwear, Constance Clothing, Hoodlum Skateboards, and Cosmic Charlies for donating prizes for the event. A special thanks to "The Link " for opening the doors so we could have the event rain or shine. A special thanks goes out to Casandra who did allot of baking for the event and had a table set up with food and drinks. We even talked her into entering the contest. For a longboarder she did great.
Beginner - 1st Tyler Landowski , 2nd Davis Ballou , 3rd Justin Ridlon
Intermediate - 1st Garrick Ridlon , 2nd Mike Luber , 3rd Gregory Belz
Advanced - 1st Elias Simonetti, 2nd Chris Peterson , 3rd Elijah Ackerly
Best Trick - Josh Gallant for his Frontside Flip over the hand railWe raised a couple hundred bucks for the new park and I thank everyone that came to the event and supported the cause.

As always, positive comments about skating are always needed in these articles. Be heard and don't let them outlaw your sport without letting them know how you feel about it.

Good article on "Skateboarding"
Dyrdek and Rodriguez said they’ve both have been chased by the police.
“I’m saying I’m running from cops not even a year ago,” Dyrdek said, describing how he and a group of 30 other skaters fled from police at a Santa Monica schoolyard. His description, including how he climbed over a fence, sounded similar to the opening scene of his movie.
“It’s the reality of what we all do. It’s not like there’s tons of legal places to ride a skateboard,” he said. “There’s only one in L.A. Everything we skate to this day still is illegal.”

Amelia Brodka
The big news is that she will be skating in the Woman's Vert contest at the Dew Tour in Boston. We wisher luck in the event as she will be skating against some of our other friends like Nora Vasconcellos and Gaby Ponce. Both know there way around a vert ramp and I would not be surprised to see Nora or Gaby land the first 540 ever by a woman in a vert contest.
Try to get there for the action as it will be worth the cost of the ticket to see this event

Thanks for the Support
Each month the shop will host a get together for skaters. We will find a different spot we can all ride. If you have any idea's post them up so we can keep it fresh.
I have had allot of skaters interested in meeting here at the shop and skating to Hallowell on the rail trail. Stop in for a cold one and skate back. We can look into setting up a box and rail for a few tricks on the way down and back.
Thanks

Front Page News

The Kennebec Journal came in and interviewed us about the skate scene in Augusta. It made the front page of today’s paper. It's a good article and addresses some of the issues that face skaters. It talks about the new Augusta Park, the out dated city ordinance that covers skateboarding, and mentions our shop. Please use this link to read the article and post your opinion about skateboarding in Augusta in the KJ’s comments section. Maybe we can help ease the stereotyping of skaters if we all use our voice in a positive forum that elected officials can see. After all, they do work for us.
